Hey folks. Here’s the thing: Apps that are collecting data on your iPhone – sending them somewhere to be analyzed or even sold without asking the user for permission – are a bad thing. To me it would be the same thing, as if they went to your portmoney and enter the credit card information into your newly setup iTunes account without asking for permission, just that you can enjoy everything that is behind it without barriers. Wouldn’t be too bad if they had asked for permission first. So what’s the big deal? Maybe their app doesn’t work as intended, if they can’t access the address book of the iPhone. That may be the case. But where’s the harm in asking the user for permission and maybe explain to him, as to why they need the data?

Here’s the shout out: Dear app developers. Decide wisely and carefully if you’re really going to need extra data from the user and if you have to access their data: Just friggin’ ask! A lot of people are happier with you than they would be, if they know in advance that you need their data. Imagine what break of trust it would be, should they find out, you were spying on them all along. Then your app will dissappear from a lot of iDevices really fast. And the fast and good dollars you make will no longer come to you….

RSS is a real blessing as it provides the raw content of a site in a machine readable stream. That makes it easier to handle a whole lot bigger chunk of data than heaving to process an entire website and extract the content to get rid of design stuff. So RSS powers new ways to keep one posted. Check out “google reader” as an RSS reader. And subscribe to the ManFisher.net feed.

Subversion is the version control system I love. But when it comes to moving it from a recovered server husk to a new productive system subversion can be a pain in the ass! to be continued… I have to get it working. Can someone help?

I ordered my Desk / Office again. Makes work a lot easier!

This Post is proudly powered by my iPhone…

I hereby declare that I think:The Future lies in the use of mobile equipment. At least as long as publishing, emailing and interaction with the Internet are concerned.

I’m absolutely positive that future bloggers will go ahead and just start blogging on site. I will test this in the future. So maybe this blog will be updated more frequently after all.

Good morning folks.

As I set up stuff this morning I came to the realization that I can let you be a part of it. Are you tired of forgetting things? Important things most of the time? Well, set up stuff to remember yourself or to get remembered via Mail, Skype, ICQ and email and twitter. How? Simple: go to rememberthemilk.com and set up an account. Then go to [Settings] -> [Reminders] and set up the alerts you like. You can even have your tasks inserted into your google calendar… If you like me are a twitter user, you can simply put “d rtm make coffee” into your twitter update box and then simply tweet it. If you set rememberthemilk up correctly (click for tutorial) the tweet then goes directly on your todo list. And from there to whereever you want it. If you’re entirely freaked out (like me) and you want your (google) calender, contacts and tasks everywhere you go, then sign up with nuevasync.com/ and configure your mobile phone as described to you on the page. Nuevasync is a great way to have your Google calenders, contacts and stuff synchronized on your mobile phone. Comment, if you like it. Comment if you miss something.

Cheers, ManFisher

Hey people in need of a good power supply for your notebook ManFisher here

take a look at this great baby: imag0142 available at Conceptronic it has 15 different tips which even fit YOUR notebook. Some ppl tend to have an aweful lot of notebooks with different kinds of needs for power supplies. This thing can get you 15/16/18/19/20/22 Volts with 4 or 5 A depending on the voltage you set. All in all it has 120W power output and so can cover the needs your notebook has for power. Saved me a lot of time during its use in the past several weeks. ‘Cause I had the correct power supply right in my hand instead of bothering customers bringing not only their notebook but also their power supply. Great tool to have.

Have a good one there. Peace’n cheers

ManFisher the firemaster

Today we went tobogganing with the scouts. A bunch of 25 scouts went going up and then sliding down the “Moaralm”. We had a lot of fun and warmed ourselves up ’round the fire I made with one of the scouts I lead. Everybody enjoyed a warm cup of tea which was brought by one of the leaders. A more detailed version of this post will appear on rr215.de in German.

Thanks to all, I really enjoyed myself this day.
